On Friday 24,2014 it was 21 degrees at my house. It was before daylight and I couldn’t see if we had precipitation. As usual, fed the cats, then got in the car to get the morning papers at the mailbox. The driveway is two tenths mile and very steep; the first part was fine. Then it makes almost 90 degree turn to the north and there was ice. I slid right in the ditch. Couldn’t stand on the drive, so I walked back up the hill through the woods. It was still rather dark and I feared there was ice on the rocks but I made it all right. After the thaw I walked down to survey the damage thinking I could back it out. Here came a neighbor that raises exotics, peacocks, etc. He was on a golf cart looking for a newly-born antelope that dogs had frightened. He offered to get his big tractor and chain and pull it out, which he did.
Why am I writing this? Years and years ago there was a newspaper column by a very elderly gentleman in a nursing home. He wrote about living to a 100. I don’t think he made it, but it was interesting.
People who have lived awhile have philosophical comments they want to share. I have always been interested in the world’s events, and there have been a few.
